Universal Naming Convention (UNC)
In the On-Line Files Directory and On-Line Templates Directory fields, you can enter data paths using the Universal Naming Convention (UNC). UNC format eliminates the need to include drive letters. This is required in all network setups in which each computer is assigned a unique name. In this situation, data paths pointing to files on the server do not require a drive letter (such as F:\, G:\, etc.).
To enter a data path in UNC format, begin with a double backslash (\\) followed by the server name, a single backslash (\), and the directory in which the files or templates are stored. The following is an example of a data path in UNC format:
\\COMPUTER1\PROGRAM FILES\SOFTPRO\PROFORM
This data path, if entered in the On-Line Files Directory field, would indicate that the network ProForm files are in the \Program Files\SoftPro\ProForm directory on the computer named COMPUTER1.
NOTE : In all network setups, the data paths in the On-Line Files Directory and On-Line Template Directory fields should be the same on each computer used as a workstation. (And the server if it is used as a workstation).
